Long story:
I did a small research when I found out that new DuckTales are about to appear. So, it is said, that it won't be an ordinary remaster or reboot, but something closer to the original comics. Just after a single episode it is hard to tell how it worked out.
What you notice instantly is stylistics. At first glance it "feels" kinda ugly, very modern and simplified. Coarse characters, empty backgrounds. But then I watched original episodes and guess what. It is not that different. Well, it is, but the classic version is not that much better as I remembered. Scrooge and Donald are even pleasant, the worst part are, unfortunately, nephews. But at least they were not converted into afroduck, genderduck and hipsterduck trio... Some scenes got a strong comics aesthetics, some feels "rich in production". I may be old, but I must admit that I am OK with it. There is one thing that makes huge difference (and it is not that obvious) - the color set. The old one was super bright, garish and eye burning. The new one is much darker and one can even say it is faded. As an adult I like it. As a child not that much.
All the voices feels right to me. I only have a problem with the theme song. Why, oh why was it rerecorded? The original was perfect. The new version is soulless shit. It should be something brand new.
What about the story line? Well... it is a cartoon. It is for kids. We have to live with that. But being as old and grumpy as I am, I would say that I really enjoyed it. There are references to pop-culture, direct references to original series and even decent sense of humour. Subtle and harsh interactions between characters are the best part of it. You can even sometimes wonder if it is still suitable for kids. The tempo of story telling is a bit too fast for me. We got five episodes long introduction history in original DuckTales - here it is condensed to one (double) episode. Wow, that was fast.
I look forward to next episodes, the beginning was good.
