It's unusual for me to go on "big" gig. But Mark Knopfler, not far away... this time I cannot miss that. Long story short - that's how we found ourselves on an "Evening With Mark Knopfler and Band".
To be honest - all of that was just great. Every single thing that could go well - went well, and every little thing that could go wrong - went even better. We liked just about everything, I can say that it was one of the best shows I have ever been.
We managed to buy tickets for just the middle of the stalls - in the very front row of the second sector. The acoustic there was terrific, I doubt that it was better or even as good in other parts of the area. And bear in mind that I am (almost) always very mortified about that. Not this time! There was one more, not so obvious, benefit of our front row. The concert was just un-seateable. I am not energetic person and I would rather lay or sit when listening to the music. But that time... after just few minutes I wanted to stand. It is still not clear to me, who got the idea to make every single and all the places as seats. It just could not succeed and it did not. Sometime in the middle of the gig the audience in the pit just stand up and rushed towards the stage. Security was defenseless (but everything happened in rather civilized way, nobody was hurt as I could say) and the band was probably as happy as we were all down there. So that was the moment, when our first row of seats really paid off - we just had to stand up and the crowd did the rest 😉
It is rather obvious, that from a world class artist you can expect at least decent show. It was far from being decent. It was truly awesome! A mature man with glasses just nobly walked on stage and completely owned the audience. So it was just him to rule us all. But he was not alone, no. He brought an entire band with him - a small orchestra (or call it big band) of ten man. They were everything but random. How amazing can some Dire Straits songs be in that arrangement is just indescribable. Let's take for example first encore - Money for Nothing, and two (yes - TWO) drum sets...
I was so happy and pleased to be there. Nothing was wrong that day.
If you have an opportunity to go to Marks' show - hesitate not! Every money spend on it repays a thousand time in good emotions.
